Donate A Sectional Sofa Or A Couch

Donate your old couch to the charity of your choice.

Nonprofit organizations benefit from both monetary and item donations from the public. It is likely that you have a variety of things around your home that you no longer need. Smaller items may be easier to donate, but some charitable organizations benefit from larger items as well. Donating your old couch or sectional sofa to a local nonprofit organization will benefit the organization and the needy people it serves.

Instructions

1. Clean the couch or sectional you wish to donate. Dust off the piece of furniture using a damp cloth or dust rag. Follow this up with a gentle fabric or leather cleaner, avoiding solvents with harsh chemicals.

2. Take a digital photograph of your donation. This provides you with a record of your donation and a digital image to offer the organization in case they wish to view the item prior to donation.

3. Research nonprofit organizations in your area that accept donations of furniture. Not all are able to accommodate larger items, so choose your favorite organization and call its local office to inquire if the organization can accept the donation and whether it is able to pick up the couch, or if you need to deliver it yourself. Offer to send the organization the photograph of the sofa.

4. Prepare the couch for donation and schedule a time convenient to both parties to either donate the couch or deliver it to the nonprofit organization. If the nonprofit organization picks up the item at your home, clear a path so that volunteers can easily access the couch.

5. Obtain proof of donation from the organization. This allows you to document your donation for a possible charitable donations deduction on your income tax. Some organizations have their own specific tax deduction forms, while others may provide you with a letter or informal receipt of your donation.
