Decorate A Living Room With Dark Furniture

Perhaps you fell in love with a furniture set, only to decide it was a bit too dark when it arrived in your home. You do not have to get rid of your furniture to make your living room warm and inviting. Using paint and accessories can help you achieve a pleasing balance of light and dark in your room. If all else fails, a bit more money can get you a whole new look, without new furniture. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Brighten the room using paint. To balance out the dark room, paint your trim white and your walls warm and bright. For example, if you have chocolate leather furniture, you can paint your walls a warm yellow or golden color. Another color that goes well with dark furniture, especially brown, is light blue or light teal.

2. Add throw blankets and pillows to break up the dark furniture color. You can coordinate these splashes of color with your paint, if desired.

3. Ground the room with an area rug that has dark details, or consider adding a dark entertainment center or other wood piece to the room. Do not brighten your room so much that your dark upholstered pieces seem out of place.

4. Use slipcovers as last resort. If you are still dissatisfied with the color of your furniture, you can find inexpensive stretch slipcovers at a department store or you can have slipcovers specially made for your living room furniture. Another option is to reupholster your furniture.
