Design A Home Entertainment Wall

TVs are a popular component of an entertainment wall.

The entertainment wall is the focal wall in the space. Entertainment walls can be designed to be modern or traditional. The entertainment wall houses a multitude of different entertainment pieces like TVs, DVD players, sound systems and even old record players. It also acts as a storage area for movies, CDs, framed photos and other accessories. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Locate the best wall for an entertainment wall in the room. Consider sunlight that can create unwanted glare on the TV screen. Sunlight creates glare from most angles in a room if the light is not blocked with window treatments. Windows on the wall opposite the TV allow light to shine directly onto the screen, while sunlight from side walls partially hits the TV screen throughout the day. Even sunlight from behind the TV makes it difficult for your eyes to adjust properly to the TV screen because there is too much light contrast in your field of vision. If there are windows in your entertainment room, consider purchasing some new window treatments like blackout blinds or curtain panels so that sunlight is not a problem.

2. Scale the size of the furnishings used on the entertainment wall to house electronics and other components. Consider other focal elements in the room, such as a fireplace or view, to be sure there is balance in the space.

3. Determine which kind of entertainment wall you want. Some furnishing options for an entertainment wall include a complete wall built-in, freestanding entertainment centers in a number of sizes and styles, or a TV stand paired with other matching furnishings for storage and design. The biggest piece of furnishing in the entertainment wall will set the tone for the overall design style. Wood is the traditional finish, though more contemporary options are also available, such as silver and iron.

4. Paint the entertainment wall and other room walls if desired. Play with wall color to complement the entertainment wall furnishings and make a bold statement in the room. White or minimalist neutral colors like tan, cream or soft greens are popular colors for entertainment walls.

5. Purchase the needed equipment and install the entertainment wall furnishings, or hire a professional to complete the installation.

6. Add storage to the entertainment wall if an entertainment center does not provide sufficient storage for DVDs, video games, board games, pictures, books, albums, CDs and other miscellaneous gadgets. Consider floating shelves, freestanding bookshelves or any other furnishings that can house cloth or wicker baskets for hideaway storage.

7. Decorate the area with vases, art work, pictures, sculptures and any other accessories you like. Decorative items can really complete a particular design style, so be sure to have fun and express your own sense of style within the accessories. For a swanky style, add a vintage record player; or add a shabby chic appearance with a distressed white finish.
