Fun Activities For Kids To Make At Halloween Parties

Halloween craft activities for kids can be used to add extra fun to a Halloween party.

Halloween is one of the most exciting times of the year for children. As well as trick or treating, Halloween parties are common. To make a Halloween party more interesting, enjoyable and memorable, adults can help children to make Halloween crafts that are simple and affordable. Does this Spark an idea?

Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin carving is the obvious Halloween party craft idea. Although children should not be allowed to use the knife, they can play a role in the pumpkin carving. After an adult has removed the top of the pumpkin, children can remove the flesh themselves. They can then design their own scary pumpkin face on the side of the fruit in marker pen. An adult can then carve the face for them. To make things even more interesting, you could award a prize for the spookiest.

Pumpkin Bag Craft

If the Halloween party is being held before a trick-or-treat trip, then the children will need somewhere to keep their treats. Simple pumpkin-shaped bags can be made using pieces of orange and black felt, black embroidery thread and some green ribbon. Cut the orange felt into a circle in the desired size of the bag and give each child two circles. Using the embroidery thread, they should sew the pieces together, leaving the top open. They can then cut eyes, nose and mouth out of black felt and glue them in place on the bag. Finish with a green ribbon threaded through the top and tied securely as a handle.

Halloween Broomstick Bookmarks

Broomstick bookmarks are a simple, fun Halloween craft that can be made at the party and taken home as a reminder. To make them, each child will need a wide wood craft stick, brown craft foam, string and glue. Small foam letters may be used to personalize the bookmark if desired. The foam should be cut so it resembles half a bow tie and then small cuts should be made into it to make the bristles of the broomstick. The foam should then be glued onto the craft stick so the "bristles" stick out over the end. A small piece of string should be tied around the narrowest part of the foam. The broom handle can be personalized if desired.

Crafty Cooking

For Halloween party fun, combine craft with a little cooking and make and decorate caramel apples. For around 10 medium apples, melt 700 g of caramels with 4 tbsp. of whole milk, either in a double boiler or a microwave. Whilst the caramels are melting, securely stick a wood craft stick into each apple. Each child may dip his own apple into the mixture to thoroughly coat it. It should be left to cool on a piece of greaseproof paper. When the caramel is drier, but still warm and soft, children may use any combination of ingredients to decorate it. Examples include sprinkles, chocolate chips and mini marshmallows.
